Bhopal Traffic Cops Make Helmet-less Riders Write 100-word Essay On Why They Violated Laws

We all know by now that wearing a helmet while driving or riding a two-wheeler is the most sensible thing to do. Several campaigns have also been undertaken by the authorities to encourage citizens to wear the safety gear in order to reduce the number of fatalities and deaths on roads. People also promoted helmets in their unique way. First, a dance troupe from Gujarat performed Garba wearing helmets, then a man was seen riding with his doggo wearing a helmet because safety first!

The government also passed the new Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill under which riding a bike without a helmet will attract Rs. 1,000 along with license suspension for 3 months. But still several people, even today, skip wearing it.

Hence, traffic policemen across the country are coming with unique ways to ensure no one drives on the road helmet-less. From making offender buy helmets and license when caught, to slapping hefty fines, they have done it all. Cops even distributed ladoos and toffees with the aim of spreading traffic awareness, but all in vain.

Now MP police have decided to school violators in a creative way. The traffic cops in Bhopal have been asking two-wheeler riders caught without helmets to write down an essay explaining their reason for not wearing one.

As reported by News18, in the past six days, the policemen have made over 150 violators write a 100-word essay explaining the reason for ignoring the mandatory headgear. The innovative idea was launched during the Road Safety Week that ends today.

Speaking about the initiative, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Pradeep Chouhan told HT:

“During the ongoing Road Safety Week, riders of two-wheelers found without a helmet are being told to write an essay in 100 words to explain as to why they were violating this necessary safety norm.”

He further added that ‘this initiative will continue even after the end of the Road Safety Week.’ Apart from this, Bhopal traffic police have also taken out rallies to create public awareness about traffic rules. They have also distributed pamphlets and organised an eye check-up camp for auto-drivers to ensure safer roads in the city.

Well, the cops are doing their level best to ensure we follow traffic rules. Isn’t it our responsibility too to safeguard our own lives? Now, you decide!
