Govt’s New Bill Proposes ₹10K Fine For Not Letting Ambulance Pass & It’s Exactly What We Need!

They say that if you can drive in India, you can drive anywhere in the world. And it’s not meant as a compliment. A complete disregard for traffic rules and road safety is what we experience in most parts of the country. High accident rates indicate that laws concerning road safety aren’t being adhered to and people who break road rules are being let go of without repercussions. What seems like the only way out of this situation is implementing stricter laws and the government has taken a step towards it.

The current government has approved the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill which proposes heavy fines on acts of traffic violations. According to TOI, anyone not letting emergency vehicles pass, an ambulance for example, will be fined Rs. 10,000. Same goes for a person driving without a license or necessary car documents.

Violation of basic traffic rules will attract a fine of Rs. 500 from an earlier Rs. 100, and disobedience with authorities will attract Rs. 2,000 fine!

Stricter laws have also been approved on cases like drinking and driving, over-speeding, overloading, juvenile driving, etc. Aggregators violating driving licenses will be fined up to Rs. 1 lakh!

People caught for over-speeding will be fined Rs. 1,000 – 2,000, while those driving without insurance will be fined Rs. 2,000. On the other hand, riding a two-wheeler without a helmet will attract Rs. 1,000 fine and license suspension for 3-months.

In case of juvenile driving, guardians will be held accountable and their car registration will be cancelled, with an additional Rs. 25,000 fine and 3-year imprisonment.

This comes as a much-needed change to ensure road safety!
