Indian CEO Suggests Youngsters To Work 18 Hours A Day, Fails To Convince People Online

From working on weekends to staying way past office hours to get last-minute assignments done, the work culture in India is not as cool as they show in Bollywood movies. Overworking and burning yourself out is the perfect recipe to hamper your body, mind, and soul.

But despite knowing how taxing this toxic work culture can be, there are some people who publicly vouch for it and even encourage youngsters to do so.

Taking to LinkedIn, Shantanu Deshpande, Founder, and CEO at Bombay Shaving Company penned a note for youngsters who just got into a company.

The entrepreneur, via his post, told these young minds who are new in their job to work 18-hour days for at least 4-5 years if they want to see an upward going graph in their career.

He added that youngsters shouldn’t chill in the name of ‘work-life balance, spending time with family, or rejuvenation’ so early in life.

“When you are 22 and new in your job, throw yourself into it. Eat well and stay fit, but put in the 18-hour days for at least 4-5 years. I see a LOT of youngsters who watch random content all over and convince themselves that ‘work-life balance, spending time with family, rejuvenation bla bla’ is important.

It is, but not that early. That early, worship your work. Whatever it is. The flex you build in the first 5 years of your career carries you for the rest of it. Don’t do random rona-dhona. Take it on the chin and be relentless. You will be way better for it.”

Deshpande is definitely confident in his statement and convinced that this tip would help young peeps. But seems like people online aren’t convinced with his argument.

Earlier, even Shark Tank’s Namita Thapar stressed the fact that working long hours and giving no time to family is not a ‘Badge Of Honour’. You might like your work way too much but taking some time off from the screen and the stress is not a bad idea. What do you think?
