People (cynics) who say there is no good in this world to live for, have definitely never met the other half (OK, a little lesser) of the world that lives to do good, that believes there is still hope after all. And don’t we want to raise our kids in a world that that is devoid of doubts and dilemmas. Well, I do and I’m not even married!
And now that we are talking about the good, let’s bask in the goodness, while we still can. So, someone on Quora asked, “What is the best thing that ever happened to you for being nice?” and the answers will make brighten up your mood.
1. I was travelling from Mumbai to Delhi to celebrate Holi with my parents but at the airport I saw a family, fighting with the crew.
2. My college was located on the outskirts of Chennai and I commuted using the government bus.
On a very hot day in May, the driver was profusely sweating and voraciously thirsty that he emptied his water bottle by the time the bus covered just half the distance. I watched this from my seat.
3. This happened during my 3rd-year summer internship at Vancouver (Canada).
I was famished and dropped by at the nearby Tim Hortons. At that time, I was carrying some Canada Day goodies that I got at UBC. In front of Tim Hortons, I noticed a homeless man.
4. I sat in a lesson at the university, there was one place free beside me. Quite late, a girl entered the room, and since I sat in one of the last rows, she gladly took the seat.
We talked a bit, and I made sure for the next times, that there always was a free seat available beside me (since she always came late). If she didn’t show up, I gave her the next time my notes.
5. In 2014, we were among 15,000 people stuck at the Dallas airport, due to cancellations.Â
6. I ordered a watch online from a small local business.
7. My sister once found a purse in the porta potty at Governer’s Ball.Â
8. I was a volunteer DJ at a small classical music radio station.Â
9. We lived in the same off-campus apartment building, and he came to the door one day begging my roommate to help him find his keys.
She told him that she was just leaving for a class herself, but that I was available, maybe I’d help. Sure!
10. I once volunteered to help a non-profit museum build out its website and technical infrastructure.
My fiance’ did not understand why I would do this for free. We were not very wealthy at the time and had no plans for a honeymoon or wedding.
These are exactly the kind of people that restore my faith in humanity. And I sincerely hope and wish, we had more people like these. Kudos!
