Watch How Obama Choked Up While Awarding The Presidential Medal Of Freedom To Ellen

It was quite a moment for Ellen DeGeneres, at the White House, on Tuesday when she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by present POTUS Barack Obama.

Not only the TV star, but even President Obama got emotional in his speech while talking about Ellen’s efforts.

“It’s easy to forget now, when we’ve come so far, where now marriage is equal under the law, just how much courage was required for Ellen to come out on the most public of stages almost 20 years ago.”

And when he got choked up, to lighten up the mood, he cracked an Ellen joke which he says he doesn’t understand still.

In the video posted by ABC News, we can see Ellen’s emotional side as she was presented with the medal.

It has been almost twenty years that Ellen came out as gay and is now considered as a role model for the LGBT community.

President Obama ended his speech by saying that Ellen inspires all to be better with “one joke, one dance at a time”. We couldn’t agree more.

The award is presented to individuals who’ve made contributions in the national interests of USA through their significant public or private endeavours. Among other dignitaries who received the award were Tom Hanks, Robert De Niro, Bill and Melinda Gates, Diana Ross, Vin Scully and Bruce Springsteen.

Kudos to you, gal. Just keep swimming!
