Weekends are the perfect time for retail therapy and this is exactly when a notorious criminal gang from the capital targetted their next victim. It seems South Delhi isn’t immune to the odious crimes of the “thak thak gang. Yes, folks, the goons have struck again. This time around it is a former B-town actress who is their unwary victim.
Four members of the gang assaulted and robbed Farheen Prabhakar, the wife of former cricketer Manoj Prabhakar. The woman reported the theft of her wallet and mobile phones. It all began when Prabhakar, a resident of Sarvpriya Vihar, was headed to Select City Walk mall in Saket on Saturday at noon.
If you’ve heard of the “thak thak” gang’s MO you probably know that they distract drivers by knocking on their window and chatting them up. However, they are not opposed to using force as a means of theft, which is precisely what makes them so dangerous.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijay Kumar takes us through what transpired that day.
“When Prabhakar stopped her car at a traffic signal, all the four robbers tried to smash her car.” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijay Kumar.
“After parking her car, when she tried to reason out, the robbers abused her for not driving properly. They later took out her wallet with Rs. 16,000, documents, valuables and mobile phones and tried to escape. Prabhakar resisted their attempts following which they assaulted her. The accused later managed to escape in their car parked on the opposite side of road,” Kumar added reports NDTV.
“An asthma patient, Prabhakar collapsed on the road. She was helped by an Army officer who called the police and managed to note down the accused’s vehicle registration number,” the officer said.
“The police have registered a case on the complaint by the victim and are trying to identify the accused with the help of CCTV footage,” explained the police officer.
Early last year the cops made an arrest in the Thak Thak case nabbing the leader. However, it seems this hasn’t mitigated their nefarious activities. Saavdhan Delhi!
