Every parent has one dream, to see their child be successful in life. A good education, a stable job, happiness and respect in the society are what they would want for their children the most. And this is what they dedicate a better part of their lives to. We’ve all seen this in our families, with our parents. This is one major factor that drives us to make them proud, to get that stable job, make a decent earning, to be respected… All, for them.

This father of three sons had his dream come true. But the story takes a bizarre turn here.

According to Times Of India,  Ravichandran Mudaliyar is the alleged gang leader of the ‘tak-tak’ gang and the prime accused in a 2.5 lakh rupees theft case.

The modus operandi of the tak-tak gang was to knock on a car’s door to inform the driver about an “oil leakage” or an accident. As the driver rolls down his window, some members of the gang would engage him in conversation while others would flee with valuables, usually high-end mobile phones.

Earlier this month, Mumbai police had been successful in finally arresting five members of the gang, Mudaliyar included.

Mudaliyar has been in Pydhonie police custody for the past few days, but the police have been unable to get him to talk. He claimed not to know any Hindi and only responded to the cops in Tamil, that too in a very confusing manner.

As a last ditch attempt, the police threw a wild card at him. And it worked wonders.

The police told Mudaliyar, that unless he cooperated with them, they would summon his three sons to the station. Sons, one of whom is a marine engineer, another a doctor pursuing a masters in surgery at a reputed hospital in Navi Mumbai, and the third a student of hotel management.

Mudaliyar broke down hearing this and proceeded to speak to them in fluent Hindi. Recounting the incident, a police officer said:

“We arrested and interrogated the accused but they were not cooperating and Mudaliyar would respond to us only in Tamil. We initially got four days’ police custody of the accused. After that, we sought more time for custodial remand and were granted four more days by the court. We took the call detail records (CDR) of his mobile phone and found a number which belonged to an acquaintance from whom we learnt that he was a resident of Govandi. We went there and found a laundryman and one more person and brought them to the police station. They identified Mudaliyar, but he still refused to cooperate.
We managed to get hold of details of his wife and three sons who live in Navi Mumbai; Mudaliyar does not live with them. His oldest son has completed his MBBS. He worked in a reputed city hospital before shifting to one in Navi Mumbai where he is pursuing his MS. His second son is in the merchant navy and the youngest is studying hotel management. Armed with this information, we began to question Mudaliyar again.”

The fact that they had found out about his sons shocked Mudaliyar. This was what prompted him to give up the act and confess to his crimes.

An investigative officer added:

“We recovered gold jewellery worth about Rs 1.5 lakh that he had hidden in one place. Moreover, we also learnt that he was wanted in the Dharavi ATM theft case.”

Mudhaliyar is currently lodged in the Arthur Road jail.

This is one of the strangest incidents I have come across in recent days. Is this a testament to a fathers love or is he a criminal who made bad life choices? I cannot imagine what his family must be going through at this moment.
