Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli and his family recently had to bear the brunt of angry cricket fans after the ‘men in blue’ lost their T20 World Cup 2021 opening game to Pakistan.
Soon after, Kohli criticized the people who trolled his fellow teammate, Mohammed Shami. This is when a Twitter user lost his calm and insensitivity gave rape threats to Virat and Anushka’s 10-month-old daughter Vamika through his personal handle.

People online were outraged by this insanity and called for action on the abuser. According to a report by NDTV, Mumbai police has nabbed an IIT-Hyderabad graduate who has allegedly sent rape threats to the infant.
As per reports, the accused identified as Ram Nagesh Srinivas Akubathini, is a software engineer who had been working with a prominent food delivery app in Bengaluru. However, he quit his job to prepare for a masters degree in the US. In the next couple of days, he would have headed to the US but the Mumbai police got hold of him in Hyderabad before his departure.
Apparently, the 23-year-old man has a history of online trolling and has been using multiple identities to do so. His middle-class family wasn’t aware of his activities till now and can’t determine why he did so. The class topper, hailing from the Sangareddy area in Telangana, is currently in a Mumbai prison. His family shared that Akubathini was upset about India’s continuous loss during the T20 World Cup but he might have accidentally posted the tweet which was later deleted.
Speaking about his arrest, Indrakaran police station Sub Inspector Rajesh Naik said, “We were informed that a team is coming from Mumbai to pick someone up from our jurisdiction. One person from our team accompanied the Mumbai team and picked up the youth. They have not revealed too much information about the case. His father has accompanied him to Mumbai.” A complaint was filed and an FIR was registered against the accused under relevant sections of the IT Act.
Many including Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar called for swift action in cases like these.
I’m really glad to hear the Mumbai Police cyber cell have located and arrested the creep who tweeted rape threats to a child. Now hoping for similar swift action in cases of female journalists who receive rape threats almost on a daily basis.

Morning musing: on national education day, a headline that caught my eye was of an engineer being arrested for sending rape threats to Virat’s daughter. Education degrees without VALUES is zero. A better India must be built around better values. THINK.👍

The engineer had a well-paying job and definitely a bright future. But his thoughtless remark has put his life in jeopardy.
