Star-kids have been on the receiving end of incessant bullying ever since the death of Sushant Singh Rajput raised important questions on nepotism and Bollywood elites’ behavior towards ‘outsiders’. Past videos have resurfaced online where many actors have been seen underappreciating and mocking him which led many to realise that the Hindi Film Industry has a darker side.
One of such videos was of Sonam Kapoor on the sets of ‘Koffee With Karan’ where she denied knowing who SSR even was. This led to many people trolling her and some even slammed her for being Anil Kapoor’s daughter – an identity without which she wouldn’t have made it to the film industry.
I encourage you guys to see my comment section. And I’m sure you don’t hope that the same comes your way. I hope your parents don’t have to see this sort of this stuff. pic.twitter.com/dmvI3xOKVd

Responding to people online, Sonam Kapoor tweeted saying how she was proud to be Anil Kapoor’s daughter, be privileged, and called it her ‘Karma’, reports News18.
“Yes I’m my father’s daughter and yes I am here because of him and yes I am privileged. That is not an insult. My father has worked very hard to give me all of this. And it is my Karma where I am born and to whom I’m born. I’m proud,” Sonam tweeted.
Have a look at her tweet here:
Today on Father’s Day id like to say one more thing, yes I’m my fathers daughter and yes I am here because of him and yes I’m privileged. That’s not an insult, my father has worked very hard to give me all of this. And it is my karma where I’m born and to whom I’m born. I’m proud

Her statement was extremely offensive to many. People online questioned her whether those born into poor households was a result of their karma as well. Some called her ‘elitist’ and ‘arrogant’ while a few others pointed out that with privilege comes responsibility. Have a look:
So you may be surprised to know the poor man too works v hard for his child. Why is his child deprived of privileges? Surely you dont mean one is 'born poor because of 'bad karma' 🙈? and dont u think privileges shd b earned by ur own karma than the parents'?

It's not anyone's 'Karma' or past life goodwill to be born where they are born. It's nobody's right to be privileged, some people just are. Do you think people who are born in underprivileged houses have done something wrong to deserve that?

#SonamKapoor's latest tweet is stupid and naive at best while insensitive and super-entitled at worst! Justifying own privileged life with her non-exsiting "Good Karma" is horrible and too low for any human being. And please, oh please, correct your grammar, you dropout fucks!😡 pic.twitter.com/VocV69ivZB

That's the difference between thinking of literate and illiterate #SonamKapoor saying proudly she is privileged& It's karma where she's born.
Where US first daughter Sasha Obama is working at a restaurant during her summer break is inspiring.

Today Sonam Kapoor showed us why we should not watch these Nepokids movies! I think it’s time for every outside actor to replace every untalented nepo star that exists! Very few of them are talented ! Most are forced upon us! #anilkapoor #Karma #SonamKapoor pic.twitter.com/AukmFRIPFj

The problem is not about you being proud daughter of a respected man. The problem is lobbying in the industry, knowingly or unknowingly, where media plays a huge role as well and to some extent the audience too. We make poor choices sometimes and choose name over talent..sorry

Yes dear @sonamakapoor Karma is a bitch but do u know what Shekhar Kapur told to Sushi " What they have done is their Karma not urs" .Who are "they" ?? Ofcourse Bollywood and it's Nepo Gang who don't want to support outsiders talent and try to neglect them. #BeFairInSSRMurderCase

Why did this go from sweet to demeaning so fast? Happy for you that you were born with that privilege, but what is “my karma”? So others had “bad karma” to have been born without money & privilege? Wtf
— Hiba Bég (@HibaBeg) June 21, 2020
Its such a revolting, arrogant and elitist tweet. Sonam is justifying systemic structures of oppression and inequality within society & attributing it all to 'karma'. Essentially Sonam's though pattern is that poor deserve to be poor & that the rich are deserving.

Im proud to be born t a dad who worked hard as a chief engineer, taught me & gave me t values to stand alone & fight my own battles. He made me a self made person an entrepreneur, a writer, an artist.your father did a grt thing, but unfortunately you suffered from lack of talent!

Yes, if anything… previlage comes with more responsibility

Yes, many star-kids get an easier entry into the film industry due to their lineage. But what cannot be justified is getting continuous chances despite showing a lack of talent while the more talented go unnoticed. What cannot be justified is outcasting, even bullying ‘outsiders’. Instead of using their privilege to further their own gains, wouldn’t it be better to use it to voice their opinions against the ills of the system?
