Joe Jonas, Sophie Turner Slam Article Calling PC ‘Scam Artist’, Editors Apologize & Delete It

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas have had one of those crazy whirlwind romances that leave everyone surprised that it’s happened. Could you have ever imagined these two stars from different galaxies finding their way to each other? And yet here we are, in a crossover where Bollywood meets Disney Channel, Bajirao Mastani meets Game of Thrones, and Desi Girl meets Videsi Boy. And it is a frickin’ fairytale.

But you know how it is, right? Haters will hate, trollers trolls will troll. And NickYanka’s union to received a whole lot of Indian aunties wala treatment. There was enough gossip abut their age difference, how soon they decided to get married, what a spectacle they were making out of it, and how much money was being spent on the wedding.

The biggest shocker of them all, though, came from an article by The Cut that labelled Priyanka Chopra as a ‘global scam artist’ who had forced Nick Jonas into marriage.

From calling PeeCee a gold digger in so many words to suggesting that Nick was only looking for a fling but was tricked into a lifetime commitment, the article strung together a whole lot of trash… talk about Priyanka. Topped it off with a clickbait-y title and published it a day after NickYanka’s wedding video and photos were released. Awesome for business!

Or so they thought. Rookie mistake!

For all the trash talking that the article did, it received triple of that back.

And mind you, this wasn’t from obsessed #NickYanka fans who make picture collages of the couple and post on their Instagram accounts. There were journalists, celebrities, authors, influencers, politicians, and basically every sane human who can use their brain, who criticised the author, and more importantly, a publication like New York Magazine for deigning to publish that.

Here’s one from Filmfare editor, Jitesh Pillai.

And another from Sonam Kapoor Ahuja.

Priyanka’s now brother-in-law, Joe Jonas, and soon-to-be sister-in-law, Sophie Turner, also took to Twitter to slam The Cut for tarnishing the beautiful relationship between Priyanka and Nick.

Priyanka Chopra decided to serve a very dignified response when asked about the article.

Times Now quoted her saying,

“I don’t even want to react or comment. It’s not even in my stratosphere. I’m in a happy place at this moment. These kinds of random things can’t disturb it.”

If you ask me, that’s perfect. Priyanka and Nick have just embarked on the most beautiful journey of their life together. And nothing should ruin that for them.

And turns out, nothing will.

Following the massive (and justified) backlash that the article received, it has been retracted by The Cut, and replaced with an apology note from the editors.

“There is no good explanation for this other than human error and poor judgement. This was a mistake, and we apologize to our readers and to Priyanka and Nick.”

All we can say is good riddance to bad rubbish. Let’s go back to enjoying the new wedding photos that have come out!
