Neena Gupta’s personal life has been filled with ups and downs. She got married to Amlan Kusum Ghose while she was still in college but her marriage was short-lived. She was then briefly engaged to a man named Shaarangdev. Then she was in a relationship with former West Indies cricketer Vivian Richards while he was still married and it was with him that she had Masaba Gupta, her daughter. And finally, she got married in 2008 to Vivek Mehra, a Delhi-based chartered accountant.

In an interview, Neena Gupta opened up about conceiving Masaba outside of marriage and raising her as a single mother. She said that she never planned for all of this to happen and instead, she faced things as they came to her. Hindustan Times quoted her saying:

“I did not plan that I will fall in love with a person with whom I cannot live and have a child with him as well. I never planned that I should do something brave. I just faced the situations God gave me.”

Many of us are well known of the struggles that Neena Gupta had to face, both professionally and personally. She lost out on a lot of roles because she didn’t know the rules of the business and faced dire financial difficulties. Despite it all, she never gave up and stood her ground.

“I never gave up, and stood by my decisions. I never took any financial or emotional help for it. I suffered, endured and also enjoyed all of that. What else could I do? I could either keep crying, or marry someone pleading ‘I want a child’. I could have wasted my life crying. It wasn’t my plan to show some act of bravery but I simply accepted and went ahead with whatever God gave me,” she said.

Life may throw a lot of problems your way but you have to keep going forward. 🙂
