Hina Khan Defends TV Makers For Regressive Serials, Says No One Watches Progressive Shows

Television serials that keep desi audiences hooked to them all day long have often got us to doubt their creative teams. Some of the scenes in them are not just hilarious but also regressive and very 19-century.

But it’s not just the creators who are to be blamed for such content. As we earlier said, viewers also need to change their content consumption pattern to see a change in the kind of content that’s being made across several entertainment platforms.

Well, television’s popular star, Hina Khan, who is currently serving looks on the red carpet of Cannes 2022 also thinks the same.

The actor who rose to fame after her debut in 2009 with her first TV show ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ defended makers and said, “It’s not television, it’s the audience,” quoted Hindustan Times.

“We deliver, they deliver perhaps what the audience wants to watch. So I don’t think the content which is made on television, for that you can blame the makers or the creators, it’s the audience.”

The ‘Hacked’ actor added that there have been progressive television shows but people don’t want to watch them.

“The show doesn’t work. I think that’s the reason they deliver what audiences want to watch. Probably if everyone stops and gives them new content altogether fresh content on every GEC channel, then people may not have a choice and then they will start watching progressive content, but that’s a huge call to be taken. But, yeah that’s the reason. Until we change the attitude, I don’t think anything is going to change. It will take another 50 years I guess.”

I second her opinions to some extent. Earlier, when ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ was accused of promoting body-shaming at the expense of a child, a lot of people online said ‘it’s just a joke’.
