‘Sanskaari Baba’ at Daytime, ‘Drunkard’ At Night, Himani Shivpuri Slams Alok Nath

In the wake of the ongoing #MeToo movement, veteran actor Alok Nath’s image of a ‘Sanskaari Babuji’ has been shattered into pieces. The 62-year-old, who has worked in popular Bollywood movies like Maine Pyaar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Pardes, and Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, has been slammed with numerous charges of sexual harassment, revealing the dirty side of him.

Starting with television producer Vinita Nanda, who accused Nath of raping her, people like Sandhya Mridul and Deepika Amin have also mounted on the allegations against him.

And now, in an interview with News 18, yesteryear actress Himani Shivpuri shared her traumatic encounter with Alok Nath.

According to Himani, she was aware of Nath’s misdeeds from long but chose to keep quiet because speaking up wasn’t in ‘fashion’ at that time. Narrating the episode, she revealed how a drunk Alok Nath once walked into her room and spoke utter rubbish. The actor refused to leave the room even after Himani cried and pleaded him to walk away.

“Once Alok Nath just walked into my room, under the influence of alcohol… I was scared. I came from a small town. He was speaking nonsense and trying to act smart. I had never seen a man in a drunken state. I told him ‘please go’. He refused to go. I cried and made noises. It was shocking. He was taken away later.”

The acress went on to add that Nath portrayed the character of a ‘Sanskaari Baba’ when he used to work in the daytime. However, his image changed drastically after having liquor and she stayed away from him after 6 pm.

“Whenever we shot in daytime, he would be mild and normal but after having liquor he used to be this Jekyll and Hyde person. He used to change completely. I heard from actresses that they had a tough time working with him.”

Taking us through some more shameful memories of Alok Nath, Himani Shivpuri said that the actor was once caught peeing in the open. However, that’s not all. If Shivpuri is to be believed, Nath was even deboarded from a flight because of his misbehavior.

“While we were in Dubai once for ITA awards, he had consumed liquor and his wife was worried and was disturbed with his behaviour as he was drunk. He was also once caught peeing in open and was deplaned from a flight as he had misbehaved on the flight.”

When asked about why she continued to work with such a person even after being aware of the unsafe circumstances, Himani mentioned that she didn’t want to let go of an opportunity because of a single person.

“It’s a very valid question. After some time, I had forgotten about the incident because a woman goes through so many shocks and setbacks already that it’s difficult to remember everything. Many years have passed, I stayed in Delhi for 10 years. When I joined the industry, he was a big man. I was a fresh actor. Rajshree was a homely place so one wasn’t scared there. So, that question never struck me. I knew that I was not supposed to see him after 6 pm or even if I am, I made sure I wasn’t alone. Those were the boundaries I set for myself to safeguard me. Not just him, we know so many people who abuse women like him. We keep quiet because one doesn’t want to lose on an opportunity because of a man”.

We have to work in the industry because ‘magarmach se bair kaun le…‘ You don’t want to lose out on a film because a person is there. I made sure I don’t find myself in any such situation with him and at that time, I thought that was the best practice…”

Himani also lauded Tanushree Dutta and Vinita Nanda for their courage to come out publicly on the issue.

“Hats off to Tanushree Dutta and Vinta Nanda for speaking about it after so many years. When Tanushree spoke about it. She was thrown out of the industry ten years ago. It is the women who get targetted because the society will point fingers at them. Women is a victim you should not blame her.”

We are absolutely aghast to come across the countless cases of sexual harassment against Alok Nath. We hope he gets the deserved punishment for his faults and justice is served to those who have been harassed.
