UP Bride Collapses & Dies Just Before Wedding Rituals, So Groom Marries Her Sister Instead

We have come across many bizarre wedding stories. For instance, a Kanpur bride marrying a baraati after the groom disappeared from the venue after jaimala, or how a woman found out that her son’s bride is actually her lost daughter minutes before the wedding. Recently, another bizarre and tragic incident took place two days ago at a wedding in Etawah district, Uttar Pradesh.

As per a report in TOI, Mangesh Kumar of Nawli village was set to marry Surbhi from Samaspur village on Thursday. The groom and his family members reached the bride’s house and the wedding rituals began as usual. But things took a tragic turn when the bride complained of uneasiness and suddenly collapsed on stage right before the ‘jaimala’ ceremony.

Her family members rushed her to a medical facility where the doctors declared her to be brought dead on arrival. Her relatives stated, “As per the doctor, the bride died of a heart attack.” Needless to say, the festivities turned into mourning.

The story took an even more dramatic turn after the groom asked the bride’s parents to solemnize his wedding with the bride’s younger sister Nisha then and there. And the bride’s family agreed to the proposition.

Surabhi’s brother Saurabh said, “We did not know what to do in the situation. Both the families sat together and someone suggested that my younger sister Nisha should be married to the groom. The families discussed the matter and both agreed. It was a bizarre situation as the wedding of my younger sister was being solemnized while the body of my dead sister was lying in another room.”

”Surabhi’s body was kept in another room and the marriage of Manjesh was solemnized with Nisha. After the wedding, when the ‘baraat’ left, Surabhi’s last rites were held,” he continued.

Surabhi’s uncle Ajab Singh added, “It was a tough call for our family. One daughter lay dead in one room and the wedding of another daughter was being solemnized in the other room. We have never witnessed such mixed emotions. The grief over her death and the happiness of the wedding has yet to sink in.”
