‘Want Her To Begin Afresh’ Kanpur Man Brings Divorced Daughter Home With Band Baaja

“We brought her back just like we had sent her off after her wedding. We want her to begin afresh with her chin up,” said Anil Kumar.

He is the father of 36-year-old Urvi who recently got divorced. He brought her back home with band baaja, with the same enthusiasm as he bid her farewell after her wedding.

In a society that frowns upon divorce and stigmatises divorced women, Anil Kumar is shattering regressive norms and standing by his daughter through thick and thin, with empathy.

Urvi, an engineer at Palam Airport in New Delhi, got married in 2016. She also has a daughter. However, throughout the course of her marriage, her husband and in-laws allegedly harassed and tortured her for dowry.

“I tried hard to save the relationship after enduring eight years of torture, beatings, and taunts, but in the end, it broke down,” News18 quoted her saying.

She was granted a divorce on February 28, 2024. Her family decided to celebrate her coming back home.

“While bringing her back home, I made arrangements for ‘band baaja’ so that a positive message would be sent to the society and people would try and understand their daughters rather than ignore them after marriage,” Anil Kumar said.
