Maharashtra Doctor Shares Touching Post On Dad Retiring From Kirana Shop After 33 Years

In Indian lower middle-class families, parents work tirelessly day and night, often in multiple jobs or running businesses, to ensure their children receive a good education and opportunities. Their relentless efforts, sacrificing leisure and comfort, are all for the sake of providing a better life for their kids, thereby breaking the cycle of hardship.

Waheed Momin comes from such a family based out of Aurangabad, Maharashtra. He is a Consultant Neurologist today because of the hard work of his parents, especially his father who ran a kirana shop for 33 years and worked hard day and night to provide for his family. Today, he is enjoying his retirement.

“Abba officially retires from his business of KIRANA shop though he was still not ready for the same. After running a pan tapri for 13 years he started kirana shop 33 years back at this rented place. Mastermind was obviously my Ammi,” Momin wrote on Facebook.

He went on to reveal that it was because of his parents that he could complete his education without facing any kind of financial crisis. His father only took two days off a year.

“Because of my parents’ hard work and because of this shop I could complete my education without any financial crisis and without borrowing a single penny from any person or bank. He used to run this shop daily from 9 am to 11 pm with only 2 days leave per year for celebrating two Eids.”

Even Momin worked at the kirana shop after school till class 9.

“I also used to work there till 9th std after school time and I still remember rates of many kirana items during that period. Feeling both sad and happy as I would have definitely continued and have expanded this business nicely in a modern way if my parents had not given me proper education.”

Even though he is sad that his father is going to stop doing the work that gave him so much joy, he hopes that he can enjoy his retirement now.

“It’s sad to see him stopping his work which he liked the most. Hope he enjoys his retirement and leisure time and takes care of his health which he has always ignored for us.”
