Over the years, there has been a significant rise in the number of domestic violence cases across the world. This granny from Louisiana, US, who was also mentally abused by her ex-husband also decided to encourage others by sharing her story through social media, reports News18.
Flora Young, 73, first used a popular video sharing application to bond with her granddaughter, Olivia. But soon she started making short videos talking about her marriage and empowering other women to get out of abusive relationships.
“I was mentally abused by my husband, and that’s what most of my TikToks are about,” she explained to KATC.

She also recorded a response for her abusive ex who said she’ll never be strong enough to leave him.

Flora says, it’s okay to drop out of an abusive relationship than to suffocate in it.
“Most people would say I can’t believe you’re going to leave when you have three children. Well, you don’t stay because you have children, your kids are more miserable watching the parents in a terrible situation.”
She made a video sharing how difficult it was to convince lawmakers in the 1970’s to not turn a blind eye to domestic violence.

Through one of her many videos, she expressed how she felt when she finally ended up leaving her husband back in the 70s.

Flora adds that she’s happy to know that she is able to help others with her ‘crazy’ videos. “They would comment how I was encouraging to them. A lot of people have a hard time leaving. It gives them an incentive, courage, to get up and do what they want to do. I’m happy if they’re happy watching a granny because not too many grannies like to act and be crazy,” she adds.
Ever since several countries were put under lockdown due to COVID-19, the number of domestic abuse cases have increased manifold. Flora’s videos are sure to help many people at such difficult times.
