Offers like getting pizza for free if your delivery guy reaches after 30 minutes sound really exciting. In fact, a lot of people sometimes sit by their clocks and wish for the delivery guy to arrive late in order to get a free pizza! However, many of us do not know that our free pizza comes at the cost of the delivery guy’s payment.
Delivery people have often revealed how they get penalised for late deliveries. The amount is allegedly deducted from their pay. And this isn’t a good deal.
Reprimanding such policies, Bangaluru Police Commissioner, Bhaskar Rao, recently took to Twitter to address the issue. He highlighted how “kids” risk their lives to deliver orders on time and how he is considering speaking to pizza companies to increase ETAs (estimated time of arrival) to 40 minutes, reports The Indian Express.
Have a look at his tweet here:
Do we have the heart to get a free pizza from a kid who is risking his life just because he crossed over 30 mns. Am seriously considering asking Pizza companies to make it 40 mns as these kids risk their lives by breaking all Traffic rules.

People on the internet sided by his view and expressed how companies put too much pressure on delivery people. They also highlighted how poor traffic conditions in various cities cause inconvenience for people to reach their destinations on time.
It's a stupid concept, particularly in a service industry that penalises its staff for reasons beyond their control. The pressure it puts on the delivery mechanism as well as unrealistic expectations from customer end, motivated by a consumerist freeloader culture, is ridiculous!

Not just their lives, but lives of other drivers/pedestrians as well. If someone can wait for pizza for 30 mins, an adtnl 15 min must not make much diff. Pls recommend 45 mins. If the customers have a problem with that, they can drive themselves to the store pick up their pizza

I have seen Swiggy zomato boys jumping signals, overtaking vehicles, overspending and riding rash just to make sure they deliver in time. I always worried about how they risked their own life in the road like that.

Thank god someone said it. The delivery boys apologise so profusely for getting late, one can see the pressure on them.
Late pizza for us is better than no roti for their families.— Rahul Swami (@swamiiii) January 21, 2020
Please do. This 30mins or Free is absolutely not worth anyone risking their lives. The time limit should be removed completely & immediately. Let it be delivery within reasonable time no fixed limit.

Have never availed this offer
even if delayed beyond 30 minutes .
Understand cost of this pizza is recovered from the Delivery boy..
Pizza company has nothing to loose, it's delivery boy who r penalised, where at times delay may be beyond their control— Vimal Lakhotia (@vimallakhotia) January 21, 2020
Dear Sir, I really do not want to eat that free pizza by risking someone's valuable life. The delivery boys are in great stress because of the timelines. Everything can wait and really admire your statement sir

We really hope food companies take note of this and work on their delivery policies to make lives easier of delivery guys. No one should be penalised for situations beyond their control.
