In the video, Ayushmann’s character interacts with a man hailing from Telangana who says he’s from ‘South India’. Ayushmann reasons that Telangana is situated in the north of Tamil Nadu. So in that case, people from Tamil Nadu would call him a ‘North Indian’.

When Ayushmann asks the other person where he thinks he’s from, he says ‘North India’ because his Hindi is clear.

Ayushmann tells him, “So Hindi decides who is from the North and who is from South?”

When the man says, “No”, Ayushmann says, “So it’s not about Hindi either.”

“Kaise decide hota hai sir? North Indian nahi, South Indian nahi, East Indian nahi, West Indian nahi. Sirf Indian kaise hota hai aadmi?” he asks.

The scene struck a chord with several people online amid the language debate in the country. Several lauded the scene for brilliantly expressing the sentiment.
