Kangana Ranaut Agrees With Ajay Devgn, Says ‘As Of Now, Hindi Is The National Language’

A few days ago, Ajay Devgn was schooled by people online after he tweeted that Hindi is the national language of our country. Many were quick to point out that our country, which has 22 scheduled languages, does not have a national language. Hindi is only the official language of the Union – the language used in the parliament and using which laws are made in India.

In a recent event, Kangana Ranaut was asked to weigh in on the matter. And the ‘Queen’ actor went on to side by Ajay Devgn by saying that Hindi is the national language of India.

“Today within the country we are using English as the link to communicate. Should that be the link, or should Hindi or Sanskrit be that link, or Tamil? We have to take that call. So, keeping all these things in mind, a decisive call should be taken. As of now, Hindi is the national language according to the Constitution,” The Indian Express quoted her saying.

However, Kangana had a lot more to say on this issue. Highlighting that our country is diverse with multiple languages and cultures, she said that everyone has the right to take pride in their language.

“There is no direct answer to this question. We are a country with a lot of diversity, multiple languages and cultures. Everybody has a birthright to take pride in their language and their culture. I am a Pahari, and I take pride in it,” she said.

When asked which language she thinks should be the national language, Kangana replied that it should be Sanskrit.

“If you ask me which language should be the national language, then I think it should be Sanskrit. Sanskrit is older than Kannada, Tamil, Gujarati or Hindi. All these languages have come from Sanskrit. Then why hasn’t Sanskrit become the national language and Hindi has? I don’t have an answer to this. These are the decisions taken at that time (when the Constitution was written).”

She further went on to claim that if one denies that Hindi is our national language, then one is denying the central government.

“When you deny Hindi (as the national language), you are denying ‘Delhi ki sarkaar’. You don’t consider Delhi as the centre. Whatever is done in the construction, whatever acts are being passed, are being done in Delhi and they do it in Hindi.”

Kangana Ranaut agreed with Ajay Devgn and claimed that what he said was not wrong.

“As of now, Hindi is the national language according to the constitution. So when Ajay Devgn ji said that Hindi is the national language of India, he was not wrong. But I would say Sanskrit should be our national language, as languages like Hindi, Germany, English, and French have all stemmed from Sanskrit. Why don’t we have Sanskrit as the national language? Why is it not mandatory in schools? I don’t know that!”
