Anurag Kashyap Says The ‘Boycott Trend’ Distracts People From Talking About The Economy

If you have been following Bollywood news or Twitter trends online then you would know how everyone’s adamant about boycotting and canceling Bollywood movies for reasons best known to them.

Aamir Khan’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ and Alia Bhatt’s ‘Darlings’ have been worst affected by this new wave that has consumed the countrymen. It has also successfully kept social media users away from talking about topics relevant to the people of the country.

After Arjun Kapoor, it’s filmmaker Anurag Kashyap who has spoken his mind on the #BoycottBollywood trend.

A short clip from his interview to an online portal is now going viral. In the clip, Anurag fearlessly highlights the facts revolving around the film industry in general and the economic crisis that India is currently facing.

Talking about the South Vs Bollywood debate, he says, “You don’t know how many films are not working in the South.”

“Two movies have worked in the Hindi film industry and the same in the Telugu industry too. In Tamil, only one has worked, and the same in Kanada. So what’s lacking? No one knows which South movie released in the theatre because even those aren’t working.”

“The main problem is that people don’t have money to spend. We are paying GST on food items like paneer. To distract people from such problems, the boycott trend has been birthed. Since people don’t have money, they want to watch movies only when they are assured that they’ll enjoy them or because they’ve been waiting for the movie for years. People are going to watch only when they hear it from others.”

He goes on to say that such trends are only distractions to keep the public busy so that they don’t ask questions about the price rise and other problems in the country.

“People don’t have money to spend. Our country is going through the worst economic slump and we should be talking about that. But no one is doing that. People are being kept busy and distracted from real problems by using Bollywood as the medium. Either Bollywood or cricket, keep talking about them and no one would know what’s going on in the country.”

Watch him bare it all.

People online were divided on hearing his opinions.
