Masaba Was Called A ‘Bastard’ For Supporting Firecracker Ban But Her Reply Is Explosive!

The Supreme Court of India recently banned the sale of firecrackers in Delhi and NCR in a judgement that divided the country into more than two parts. Not like it is any difficult than it sounds (you know the feuds I’m talking about) but the verdict, according to Twitter, sucked the fun out of the festival.

In fact, there were even folks like Chetan Bhagat who gave it a communal tinge and environment be damned! But amidst all, there were sane-minded people who saw it for what it is- an effort to save what is left of our ozone layer.

And it isn’t surprising but ace-designer Masaba Gupta was one of them. She was even vocal about it on her social media profile.

And needless to say, trolls and bashers got down to shame her for her parentage, calling her names that deserve no place in a civil society. Sample this:

But Masaba isn’t one to take bullying lying down. She took to Twitter and posted a kickass reply for the naysayers.

Read her entire post here.

“Recently I retweeted in support of the firecracker ban by the Supreme Court and like every other issue in this country, big or small…the trolling and bashing began. By calling me names like ‘bastard child’ or ‘illegitimate West Indian’ it only makes my chest swell with pride.
I’m the illegitimate product of two of the MOST legitimate personalities you’ll find and I’ve made the best of life, both personally and professionally…out of it which I am proud of.

I have been called this names since I was 10 years old and ever since I could read the newspapers these are the two words I am immune to. My legitimacy comes from the work I do and what my contribution to the society has been. And you can try but you will not be able to raise a finger on the either of the two.

So, please. If you must…go ahead and continue calling me these names if it makes you feel glorious. But know this…I’m a proud Indo-Caribbean girl who doesn’t know how to shrink and crumble in shame of something you or your society cannot handle. It’s just in my ‘illegitimate’ genes.”

That’s the way to give it back, Masaba. Thank you for showing us how it’s done!

P.S- Never change. Please?
