Indian society frowns upon live-in relationships and a majority of our people consider it inappropriate. However, living together before marriage gives couples a chance to really understand each other. When you share a home, you see each other’s habits, good and bad. You learn how to handle disagreements and manage responsibilities together. It’s like a test drive before committing to a lifelong journey.
The same was highlighted by Zeenat Aman who took to Instagram to share a hearty post advocating for live-in relationships.

“Here’s a personal opinion I haven’t previously shared – if you’re in a relationship, I strongly recommend that you LIVE TOGETHER before getting married!” she wrote.
She has two sons – Zahaan and Azaan – and this is the same advice she gave them because it seems logical to her. Calling it the “ultimate test” of a relationship, she wrote:
“This is the same advice I’ve always given my sons, both of whom have had, or are in, a live-in relationship. It just seems logical to me that before two people get their families and the government involved in their equation, they first put their relationship to the ultimate test.”
She further added that while dating, it is easy to put one’s best foot forward. But it is only when living together that a couple recognizes if they can stay together 24X7 and are actually compatible.
“It’s easy to be the best version of yourself for a few hours a day. But can you share a bathroom? Weather the storm of a bad mood? Agree on what to eat for dinner every night? Keep the fire alive in the bedroom? Work through the million tiny conflicts that inevitably arise between two people in close proximity? In short – are you actually compatible?”
“I’m aware that Indian society is a little uptight about ‘living in sin’ but then again, society is uptight about so many things!” she said.
