There was a time when India was obsessed with cricket. Don’t take me wrong, we are still the same cricket frenzy nation but this time around there’s more than one sport on the turf. And it fills me with joy that we are finally giving tennis, hockey and its likes its due. I mean Piers Morgan and the Twitter whirlwind of trolling is proof, badminton is not just a winter activity!
Like that wasn’t enough the mutual admiration within sports stars of the respective fields has increased by leaps and bounds, giving us examples of sportsmanship.
On recently, Yuvraj Singh congratulated Indian shuttler, Saina Nehwal on winning the Malaysia Masters badminton title after a career-threatening knee injury. He tweeted,
The Malaysian masters champion ! @NSaina what an athlete true test of character after coming back from a major injury proud to be Indian 🇮🇳

This victory for the former world No. 1 comes after a point where she almost thought it was time to hang the boots because of the ailment.
The adulation went both ways when Saina, congratulated Yuvraj, a cancer survivor on his recent batting against England in the second ODI.
Thank u so much 👍..I would like to congratulate u for unparallel great achievement in the recent ODI …🙏 https://t.co/DAyBjsr9IH

This just goes to prove that sportsmanship is the best game to play. Also, it is just the kind of mutual respect we had expected of the two.
