In many companies, bosses like to say the workplace is like a big family, comparing managers to older siblings. But when someone wants to leave for a better job, they’re guilt-tripped. Bosses say things like, “We treated you like family, and now you’re leaving?” It’s a sneaky trick to make people work harder for less money. But really, work should be about professionalism.
A guy named Siddharth took to X to share how his cousin left an underpaying job which he did for almost a decade. His boss, on the other hand, tried to guilt-trip him saying that he treated him as something more than a brother.
“My cousin finally left an underpaying job which he did for almost a decade. The boss is mad and giving guilt that maine tumko bhai se badhkar mana. Toh bhai jab itna mana hai aur dukhi hai uske job chhorne se toh business me partner bana le fir?!“
He went on to highlight that equating family relationships to professional relationships is done to fool workers and that professionalism is extremely important to maintain at the workplace.
“In India we still have this Uncle, Bhaiya thing which exploits workers at workplace. Don’t hike the salary, say we are like family and fool the workers. Unnecessary ‘family ties’ at work to save paying on overtime & extra work. Professionalism is extremely important when you have a job. No didi bhaiya. The company will never belong to you. It’s just a trap.”

In a construction contract I signed, the contractor immediately said “we are like brothers from today”. He meant in case if we have to sort out some differences.
I replied, “we will be like brothers once the contract is completed, it is a professional relationship as money is…

Several people agreed to what he had to say and even gave examples from their own work experience. While it’s okay to care about your job and coworkers, guilt-tripping isn’t the right thing to do. Everyone deserves fair pay and respect, just like in any other job.
Very common…also never believe in any verbal promise of promotion in future by any boss.if you are good enough, let them do it now.I learnt it the hard way.People loyal to companies are paid least in India.Job hoppers d highest.Ghar ki murgi daal barabar.

It is just a way to emotionally coerce a person to undervalue themselves

What you are saying is 100% true, but at times the employer is also at the receiving end, they can’t easily fire non performing employees because of this

Too much exploitation and manipulation at work especially in Indian origin MNCs which give free hand to managers.
