Adnan Sami Defends Lata Mangeshkar After Woman Says She’s ‘Overrated’

I was introduced to the soulful voice of Indian playback singer Lata Mangeshkar way before I could even pronounce her surname. At home, we would listen to her on the radio and then on TV because Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammad Rafi, Kishor Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, Sonu Nigam, Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik among others were the artists who would take over people of all ages with their voices.

The artist who has been bestowed with several celebrated Indian and foreign awards for her line of work has a massive fan following across the globe. However, there are also some who don’t enjoy Lata Mangeshkar’s music too much and think she is ‘overrated’.

And one among them recently took to Twitter and wrote:

The Twitter user named Kaveri went on to say that “she went on singing way beyond her shelf life” and is “overused and damaged” in her thread.

She added:

People smelled hatred in her tweet and quickly jumped to the defense of the veteran singer. And among them was singer Adnan Sami.

Retweeting her tweet, he wrote:

Sami also shared a picture of Lata Mangeshkar and her sister Asha Bhosle with Pakistani singer Noor Jehan.

And soon, ‘Lata Mangeshkar’ started trending online with several eminent personalities and people alike sharing their two cents on the matter. Take a look:

Well, it’s normal for different people to feel differently about a particular thing. Also, if I may say so, I still get goosebumps on listening to ‘Luka Chuppi’ from ‘Rang De Basanti’ and ‘Tere Bina Zindagi Se’ from ‘Aandhi (1975)’.

Earlier, when NY Times called Lata Mangeshkar a ‘so-called playback singer’, Twitter lost its shit. What are your opinions on this matter? Share with us.
