This is becoming a vicious circle of identity now. So here’s what has been happening while you were away. Once upon a time Maria Sharapova didn’t know who Sachin Tendulkar was, until social media backlash taught her better. Then, Lata Mangeshkar didn’t know who Tanmay Bhat was, leaving some mixed reactions on Twitter. And now…
New York Times has called Lata Mangeshkar a ‘So Called Playback Singer’.
Yeah, so what do you think happened? That’s right, a twitter uproar.
The NYT article was written in context to the Tanmay Bhat Snapchat controversy, by Nida Najar and Suhasini Raj.
What might surprise you a little more is that both the writers are based in Delhi and work for the South Asia bureau of The New York Times.
And here is the Twitter aftermath of the plain ignorance of this article
So called song from a so called singer.Don’t miss so called taans during the song to get soaked in so called magic:) https://t.co/JouTGo43Kv
