Vivek Oberoi Says, “I Hold The Record Of The Most Number Of Obituaries Written For Someone’s Career”

Vivek Oberoi made his big Bollywood debut with Ram Gopal Verma’s superhit film ‘Company’ in 2002. Ever since the actor has seen his share of ups and downs in the industry. From some blockbuster movies like ‘Saathiya’, ‘Dum’, ‘Yuva’, ‘Masti’ among others, Vivek cemented his place in the industry as a versatile actor.

But the actor also hit a rough patch in his career when he ended up delivering flops, back to back. Gradually, he slipped down on the list of successful male leads in the B-town.

But the actor has somehow managed to hold his grip in the showbiz by making impactful comebacks like that in ‘Omkara’, ‘Shootout At Lokhandwala’, ‘Krrish 3’ among others. No wonder Vivek calls himself a ‘comeback kid’!

“I feel that I hold the record of the most number of obituaries written for someone’s career. I’ve seen so many Fridays wherein people have said, ‘Oh! This time he is over’. But I’m the comeback kid. I keep bouncing back. It has been a fun ride,” he told HT.

Vivek shared that people’s opinions about him and his career choices don’t affect him as he chooses to turn a blind eye towards all the negativity. “I use this trick, this brilliant thing the universe has given me which is the power of choice. I choose to completely ignore the naysayers. Anything negative comes, I just throw it out,” he shared.

The actor who is currently seen in a web series ‘Inside Edge’ said that he feels lucky to have established himself in other businesses apart from movies. “I’m lucky that I branched out beyond films. I’m much fulfilled. It has made me economically empowered that I don’t have to work for money. I work for pleasure and for the joy of the art,” Vivek said, reports DNA.

Being the son of Bollywood filmmaker Suresh Oberoi, people assumed that Vivek will definitely have it easy in the industry.

“The trend was that beta vilayat se padhayi karke ayega aur papa ek rocket ki tarah use launch karenge. And the trend was that you would make a complete showreel of a film in which you would show your dancing, riding horses, wearing designer clothes and romance girls. I had crises of conscience and opted out of the whole golden spoon being handed out to me,” Vivek said.

By making a debut in a crime drama, Vivek has evolved as an actor gradually by proving his mettle in acting by taking up movies that range from hardcore romance to hilarious comedies. And being the ‘comeback’ kid that he has always been, we believe he has definitely got a long way to go!
