Despite Being Nominated In 7 Categories, Vivek Agnihotri Refuses To Attend Filmfare Awards

Appreciation, awards, and rewards encourage us to continue doing the good work. For Indian artists, actors, filmmakers, technicians, and others associated with a film, to be nominated for a Filmfare Award (by Filmfare magazine) is a dream.

Everyone wants to bring the black lady home. Currently, preparations are going on for the upcoming 68th Filmfare Awards, happening today, which will see celebrities like Jacqueline Fernandez, Janhvi Kapoor, Tiger Shroff, and Vicky Kaushal performing live on stage.

Among the many Indian directors, filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s film ‘The Kashmir Files’ was also nominated in not one but seven categories for the 68th Filmfare Awards.

While some of them must be jumping with joy at getting the nominations, Vivek politely refused to be a part of the event. He took to Twitter and reasoned why he refused to attend the coveted award function.

Calling the award ‘unethical and anti-cinema’, Vivek penned that to Filmfare, other than the stars, nobody has a face.

“According to Filmfare, other than the stars, nobody has a face. Nobody matters. That’s why, in the sycophant and unethical world of Filmfare, Master Directors like Sanjay Bhansali or Sooraj Barjatya have no faces. Sanjay Bhansali looks like Alia Bhatt, Sooraj like Mr. Bachchan and Annes Bazmi like Karthik Aryan. It’s not that a filmmaker’s dignity comes from Filmfare Awards but this humiliating system must end.” (sic)

And as a protest against a “corrupt, unethical and sycophant establishment of Bollywood”, he has decided not to accept such awards.

“I refuse to be part of any oppressive and corrupt system or awards which treats writers, directors, and other HODs & crew members of a film inferior to and/or as slaves to stars.”

“My congratulations to all those who win and more to those who do not. The brighter side is that I am not alone. Slowly but steadily, a parallel Hindi film industry is emerging,” he added concluding his tweet with a poem by Dushyant Kumar.

People online immediately came to weigh in on the matter. Shockingly, many people said that awards are bought and sold and it’s a ‘family-fare’ award function.

Kangana Ranaut has also slammed the magazine calling them corrupt and shaming them for inviting her to the award show. With so many people coming in support of Vivek, do you think there’s some truth in his claims?
