Vir Das Talks About The Time He Used To Write Jokes For SRK & He Would Never Listen

Smart. Witty. The King of Romance.

Words would fall short if we were to discuss Shahrukh Khan, his journey, and his legacy. Which is probably why he has fans not just in India but across the world. And standup comedian Vir Das is one of them.

In a recent interview with American actor and comedian Whitney Cummings, Vir Das spoke about Shahrukh Khan and revealed a couple of details which many of us didn’t know about earlier. As Whitney showed him a picture of SRK, Vir Das immediately started fanboy-ing and why wouldn’t he? She showed him a picture of the “King of the World” – something that Vir called him, reports NDTV.

“He is the biggest star in the world, pretty much, in terms of everything – fan base, reach, in terms of anything,” he said.

Hindustan Times quoted him further adding:

“In Mumbai, if Shah Rukh Khan, who is the biggest Bollywood star, stepped out for like 30 seconds, there’d be a stampede. There’d be 5,000 people on the street. And that’s like Bollywood fame.”

Vir then went on to share an experience working with the Badshaah. He revealed that he wrote jokes for award functions (probably Filmfare) which were hosted by SRK, but he never listened to them.

“Our version of the Oscars, I used to write jokes for that and he used to host it. You’ll be up in his house just pitching jokes to the guy and he’d never listen to you. He’d go on and do his version of the joke and it would always be better. Nobody’s ever done that. I’ve always written jokes for people and then they go and do their own version and it sucks. He’s just that good, he’s that smart,” he said.

“Nobody romances a woman like Shah Rukh Khan romances a woman. His story is really good. He has a ‘self-made, showed up in Mumbai with nothing but a suitcase and became king of the world’ story.”

I think we can all agree! A snippet from the interview capturing this conversation is making rounds online. Have a look:

King of the world indeed!
