I went to the grocery store yesterday. It took me almost 15 minutes to find where basmati chawal was because the first 60% of the store was filled with red balloons, roses, chocolates, teddy bears, ribbons, gift hampers, couple t-shirts, and everything else that smells, tastes, and feels like Valentine’s Day.
It’s exhausting. Love is exhausting.
And now that it’s finally Valentine’s Day today, my brain has automatically switched to mush-mode. I can’t help but wonder why I haven’t received my bouquet of flowers yet and where on earth are my heart-shaped cupcakes. Because that is what Valentine’s Day does to people – it robs you off of all rationality. Somehow, what matters more is why has your partner not surprised you with a heart-shaped pillow, or that why don’t you have a partner at all.
Being single on this day feels like a crime. And people on the internet have recognised it. Thankfully, their immediate solution to counter the self-deprecating feeling is to make/scroll through memes. Because memes are forever, luuurrrvvv is not!
