21-YO Student Gets Elected As Gram Pradhan, Plans On Making ‘Smart Village’ With Internet

India’s population is among the youngest in the world. By 2022, the median age in our country will be 28-years, reports The Hindu. This means that several leadership positions across social, political, and economic spheres will be occupied by younger people. Hence, there is a big opportunity for development that goes with the times.

Hence, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise (but yet it is) that a 21-year-old student was recently elected as the ‘Gram Pradhan’ of Seheriya village in Wazirganj Block, Gonda, Uttar Pradesh.

Newly appointed Gram Pradhan Arushi Singh is an LLB student at City Law College, Lucknow University, reports News18. She aspires to become a bureaucrat someday and wants to prepare for the Provincial Civil Services examination.

However, Arushi’s family history includes a number of leaders. According to Hindustan Times, her grandmother was the Gram Pradhan back in the year 2000 and prior to her, her great-grandfather had also won the election.

Now that she has become the Gram Pradhan, she has good plans for the development of the village.

“Now it is my duty to make it a smart village with good internet connectivity and better public service.”

She goes on to talk about the various areas on which she would be focusing:

“Firstly I will focus on the education system for girls and boys and maintain the toilets with special emphasis on health and hygiene. I will focus on the improvement of the social and economic condition of people.”

That’s not all. Arushi would be focusing on employment, housing, and other aspects as well!

“I will focus on the health, employment, infrastructure and the basic amenities like housing, drinking water and sanitation. I will ensure that the people of my village get to avail the benefits of all the schemes run by the centre and the state government.”

Young leaders like Arushi will march the country forward to a brighter future!
