During the pandemic, Sonu Sood rose from his role as an actor and became a ‘messiah’ for thousands of poor people. He arranged buses for migrant workers to go back home, flights for students stuck elsewhere, hospital beds and oxygen cylinders for the needy, and so much more. Despite his exceptional work, he was accused of pulling off nothing but a ‘PR stunt’, called a ‘fraud‘, and his house was raided for alleged tax evasion.

Which is why, when the Padma Awards 2020 took place a few days back, several people online asked why Sonu Sood wasn’t conferred with an award. Many also asked why actor Kangana Ranaut was considered more deserving of the award, since her Twitter account was suspended for ‘hate speech’. It is to be noted that Kangana received the prestigious award for her contribution to the field of performing arts.
