Shreyas Talpade On Being ‘Backstabbed’ By Friends In Bollywood: “Egos Are Fragile Here”

Back in 2005, Shreyas Talpade entered into the arena of ‘best actors’ after his critically acclaimed movie ‘Iqbal’ earned him name, fame, and multiple accolades. And even after decades of the film’s release, Shreyas still identifies with the film he did alongside Naseeruddin Shah.

Recently, Shreyas got chatty with the Times Of India and opened up about his life, family, and career. The ‘Golmaal’ actor who has been through a rough patch in his career says that every time he feels depressed, he reminds himself that he was the guy who did ‘Iqbal’.

“I am happy with where I am today but I am not done; I am still hungry for good roles.”

“It’s very important that every actor goes through this patch because it helps you mature over time and value things more. I want to die acting on sets, or on stage while performing.”

“I think the only thing I lacked was the ability to market myself. I belong to the school of thought that says your work should get you more work.”

Talking about being backstabbed by his friends in Bollywood, he said, “I found out that there are certain actors who are insecure about sharing screen space with me and don’t want me in a film. I have done certain films for friends only keeping their interests in mind but then I have been backstabbed by the same friends.”

He further adds, “Then there are friends who go ahead and make films without including me, which makes one question if they are even friends at all.”

“Actually, in the industry, 90 per cent of the people are just acquaintances, there are only 10 percent who actually feel happy when you do well. The egos are so fragile here.”

It’s not just Shreyas who feels Bollywood has several grey areas. Earlier, ‘Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein’ actor Dia Mirza opened up about the “rampant sexism” that existed in the film industry.

Of late, a lot of actors have revealed that sexism, favoritism, nepotism among other societal ills are prevalent in the Hindi film industry. Hope the industry recovers from these soon.
