A couple of days back, actor Sunny Leone spotted her name on the merit list of Kolkata’s Ashutosh College and mocked the goof-up of the college authorities on social media. Soon after, popular singer Neha Kakkar’s name was also mischievously entered on the merit list of Manikchak College in West Bengal. Even Japanese fictional character Doraemon topped his college with flying colours.
But just when we thought the authorities have taken care of the embarrassing faux-pas, another Japanese cartoon character Shin-chan topped BSc Honours in Siliguri College, reports The Hindu.
According to a news article published by NDTV, Shin-chan’s name appeared at the top of the BSc (Honours) merit list of Siliguri College in North Bengal.
Confirming the news, an official of the institution said, “The name was immediately removed and a fresh list put up on the college website. We have lodged a police complaint as it was an act of mischief.” The authority was quick to remove the names from the college website.
The authorities have reportedly outsourced the process of compiling the merit list to an agency on the basis of the information provided to them by the online aspirants. However, an official said that ‘the students’ details will be scrutinised by the authorities of the institution before the classes begin.’
The management has taken full responsibility for the act and an inquiry has been initiated. An official from the management said to Siliguri Times that the name of the cartoon character has been enrolled by someone to defame the college.
Taking cognisance of the increasing mischief, the four colleges have lodged complaints with cyber cells of the police.
