Forget Japan, Our Very Own Shillong Is Hosting A Cherry Blossom Festival In November!

Spring season in Japan is synonymous with gorgeous Sakura blooms that add a pink hue to everything. However, not all of us can afford a trip there. Fortunately for us, there’s another way to witness the beautiful flowers courtesy the 4th India International Cherry Blossom Festival to be held in Shillong, Meghalaya.

According to Conde Nast Traveller, cherry blossoms (Prunus cerasoides) are found across the east and west Khasi Hills and their bloom signifies the onset of autumn in the northeast.

Sounds amazing. What are the dates of the festival?

The Times of India reports that the festival will be held from 13 to 16 November 2019 across 5 venues in the area namely: Polo 5th Ground, State Convention Centre, Golf Course, JN Stadium, and Indoor Stadium Polo.

Apart from taking in all the beauty and participating in a photography competition, visitors can enjoy activities that showcase the rich culture of Meghalaya as well as Japan and Korea!

The festival will have Korean barbecues, K-Pop music gigs, taekwondo demonstrations, bicycle rallies, golf tournaments, stalls of northeastern food, wine, handicrafts and native dance performances for a well-rounded cultural experience.
