UP Govt School Teachers To Mark Attendance With Classroom Selfie, 700 Lose Pay!

Government offices, banks, schools, and colleges are always under the scanner! The common man always calls out government officers for their sloth-like working habits. From making jokes on ’employees at government offices’ to calling them out on social media for taking the help of proxy at work, officers in the public sector are often blamed for their work ethics.

Accordingly, to keep a check on ghost teachers in the government schools who bunk work and turn to proxy for their attendance, the government has come up with an innovative scheme!

As per the new rule, the teachers now have to mark their attendance by uploading a selfie while posing in front of their classroom on the Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) web page. They are supposed to upload the picture before 8 am to mark the attendance and if the teachers fail to do so, they stand to lose one day’s salary.

Well, how cool is that?

Also, more than 700 teachers have already lost the pay for a day or more so far for not abiding by the new rules of attendance.

As per reports, it has become a practice in the state by the government teachers and principals who send underqualified proxy teachers in their place to teach the students. They reportedly paid them to do so.

“If the system works, we may implement it in other districts too. The Chief Minister has firmly stated that the education system must improve and more than the students, we need to improve the teaching standards,” an officer said, reports TOI.

Apart from this, teachers who are caught surfing social media during school hours will also face pay cuts.

Basic Shiksha Adhikari V.P. Singh said, “The entire process of receiving and verifying selfies is being strictly implemented on directions of the Chief Minister and basic Education Minister. Teachers have been specifically told if they do not post their selfies by 8am, they would lose their day’s pay.”

Many teachers have also come forward to oppose the new set of rules. They have said there are several; factors including traffic jams, unavailability of transport among others that lead them getting late for the classes.

“There are traffic jams, unavailability of public transport in rural areas and poor Internet connectivity which may cause delays in posting selfies. I lost a day’s salary because my tempo got stuck in a jam at the railway crossing, ” a woman teacher of a primary school in Ram Nagar in Barabanki district said.

What’s your take on the entire scene? Is it a step in the right direction or unfair to the teachers?
