Saif and Kareena have received tremendous flak from social media after they announced that they would name their newborn son, Taimur. The name has been associated with the tyrannical conqueror who was responsible for the death of millions. Eminent people like Omar Abdullah and Rishi Kapoor came to the aid of the couple and urged the public that this was a private matter.
Rishi Kapoor recently posted this tweet about Jonty Rhodes, a former South African cricketer, who named his daughter ‘India.’
You caught it right! Thank you Johnty Rodes for that. Only parents have the right to name their kids whatever pic.twitter.com/1cD3mxcMye

He tried to draw a parallel with Saif and Kareena’s decision but it backfired quite badly.
Indian Twitter accepted that naming a child was solely the parents’ decision to make. However, they did not take to kindly to Rishi Kapoor’s comparison of the name ‘Taimur’ with ‘India’ and had some strong reactions.
1. She really did not appreciate the comparison.

3. Jonty Rhodes did provide a valid justification.

4. Could it be a different Taimur?
In case of Jonty, he was inspired by the India. Does it mean that Saif is inspired by Taimoor as well?

Naming your child is and should remain a private matter up to the parents’ discretion. While freedom of speech gives each of us the right to an opinion, common courtesy begs us to show some restraint in certain cases.
