9 Times Sonam Kapoor Wore Her Opinion On Her Sleeves And Spoke Her Mind Unapologetically!

There are no two ways about the fact that Sonam Kapoor is a fashionista who changed the face and took Indian fashion to new, unconventional heights. Be it her bold but edgy choices that complement her personality or her out-of-the-box quirks, Sonam is a head turner!

I mean not that we need a reason to fangirl but I’m sure you remember her Cannes 2017 and the golden halo that is sure to last a lifetime. But I’m not here to talk about that. I’m here to talk about the voice (an unapologetic one at that) behind the diva. The voice that never thinks twice before making itself heard and the voice that echoes our thoughts.

 

Here are a few instances when Sonam Kapoor spoke her mind and we couldn’t agree more. 

1. When she told the world about being molested as a kid and encouraged all to not sush-hush it anymore!

“I have been molested and it was traumatising. I remember it was a man who came from behind and held my breasts like that. It’s so important to talk about it.”

 

2. The time she spoke about gender stereotypes and decided to kick them in the nuts!

3. Or the day she decided to teach gossip-mongers who claimed that she was uncomfortable in her own attire, a lesson. 

 

4. She even called out the dividing line and sexist, double standards that run deep in the veins of Bollywood. 

 

“WHAT HAPPENS IN THE FILM INDUSTRY IS THAT AN ACTOR DECIDES WHETHER AN ACTRESS SHOULD DO A FILM WITH HIM OR NOT.”

 

5. Remember her reprimand when foreign media mistook her for somebody else? 

 

6. The day she gave it back to a troll who asked her, “Why have you tied a bed-sheet around your neck?”

“My darling, I can carry off a trash bag!”

8. She has also made herself heard the regressive work dynamics in the showbiz and it’s bang on!

9. She has also voiced against the growing noise of trolling and cyber-bullying and it deserves a re-read. 

Let’s get straight to the point. You might call me a ‘bimbo’, a ‘naachne wali’, but you know what, I’m a terribly self-assured woman. 
The trolls can be sexist and judgmental but I know I’m smart and capable of expressing an opinion. I’m a successful woman, a feminist, a humanist, a national award winner and I say this with a great sense of pride and satisfaction: I get to live a fairy tale life every single day.

 

I have said it before and I will say it again, Sonam Kapoor has delivered more than just style statements and it’s time we appreciate (celebrate) that. Thank you for these, Sonam. We adore you!
