The Amal Clooney Women’s Empowerment Award is an accolade established to recognize and honour extraordinary women who have made significant contributions to the cause of women’s empowerment and gender equality. The award is designed to recognize and honour women from all over the world who have made significant contributions to the cause of women’s empowerment and gender equality. There are no geographical restrictions on who can be nominated or selected for this award, making it open to deserving women from any country, including India.

This year’s recipient of the Amal Clooney Women’s Empowerment Award is an 18-year-old woman named Arti from Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich. She has been recognised for her exceptional work with the Indian government’s Pink E-rickshaw initiative to provide safer transportation options for women, reported Business Today.

The Indian government’s pink e-rickshaw initiative is a program designed to promote women’s employment and safety in the transportation sector. This initiative provides women with the opportunity to operate eco-friendly e-rickshaws, often painted pink to signify their role in empowering women.

Arti is a single mother who has a 5-year-old daughter. By driving an e-rickshaw, Arti is not only able to financially support herself and her daughter but is also able to ensure the safety of female passengers in her village.

“Arti’s determination to create a safer world for her daughter and her relentless efforts in a traditionally male-dominated field exemplifies the spirit of resilience and empowerment we seek to celebrate,” said Amal Clooney, during the award ceremony.

A reception was organized at Buckingham Palace after the award ceremony where Aarti also got to meet King Charles. She arrived at the palace in a pink e-rickshaw. King Charles attentively listened as Arti spoke about how much joy driving the e-rickshaw gives her and the positive impact it has on the environment.

“I take pride in being able to inspire other girls who face similar challenges. This newfound independence has allowed me to see the world in a different light. Now, I am able to fulfil not only my dreams but also those of my daughter,” NDTV quoted Aarti saying.

Kudos to her! May she inspire many more women. 🙂
