Yesterday, a shocking incident from Chennai’s Padma Sheshadri Bala Bhavan (PSBB) School made headlines. A teacher who has worked at the school for several years was accused of sexual harassment of multiple students, sending them inappropriate texts, and trying to touch them.
After multiple female students of PSBB opened up about the harassment they were facing, screenshots of their testimonials along with evidence were posted and widely shared online. Many members of the school alumni, parents, and many people online expressed their concern and called for the teacher’s immediate suspension.
According to a recent report by ABP, the teacher, Rajagopalan, has been arrested by Chennai Police following massive outrage online. He has been booked under the POSCO Act and various sections of the Indian Penal Code including sexual harassment, intending to insult the modesty of a woman, and transferring sexually explicit material in electric form.
The police, during their interrogation, found that Rajagopalan had deleted all chats and pictures he had sent to his students. However, he has agreed to all the allegations that have been made against him. He said that he had been sexually harassing students.
In his confession to the police, he also revealed that there are other teachers like him, reports sources.
According to a statement released by the school alumni, Rajagopalan was in charge of checking exam papers. He threatened students with low marks if they complained about his misconduct.
