Love monarchy or hate it, there is no denying that the Royal wedding was a beautiful and glorious event that we got to witness after years. The British monarchy is one of the few left in the world that represent the elite class.
While Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding was indeed a fabulous affair, the guests were all dressed to impressed. Of the many influential people that attended the royal wedding, Bollywood Diva Priyanka Chopra was one of them.
She wore a chic outfit completed with an elegant hairdo and a custom fascinator to go with it. She looked no less than the British royalty itself.
However, you can always be assured that someone somewhere will find a fault and think it’s their prerogative to have an opinion on everything they see, read or witness.
Jaya Jaitly, former Samata Party president, an activist, author and Indian handicrafts curator, criticised Priyanka Chopra for choosing to wear ‘British aristocrat’ attire and not a traditional Indian saree at the Royal Wedding.
However, rest of the Twitterverse really got annoyed with this remark. They trolled her for passing such a statement.
1. In our local language, I’d say – ‘Jaise ko taisa’.
How sad an Indian citizen using a language that was imposed by Britishers on us rather than represent our free and Independent India in our local languages. https://t.co/czl0sEMmRq

2. Too bad they didn’t have a ‘Royal Sangeet’.

3. When in Rome, do as the Romans do, okay?
Absolutely not necessary madam. One must dress according to the place and time. When foreigners attend Hindu weddings, I've often seen them adorn sarees / jippas. Likewise, what's wrong in dressing for their occasion? https://t.co/JZVi0QE9Nj

4. Fair enough.
Completely unfair criticism of a woman who has done enough and more to put India on the World Map. If she is creating an international image for herself, how is that sad? She isn’t doing anything dishonourable. Would you ask why Modi doesn’t go touring in Kurta pyjama?

5. Instead of helping her rise, you’re dragging her down.
She was the only indian in #RoyalWedding2018 I guess , you should be proud of her but aunties like you only criticize.

6. Do you need some ice to put on that burn?
Clearly not a free India if she’s not free to wear what she wants & have people judge her choice. Let’s not make everything an issue when it doesn’t need to be! #unfaircriticism

7. Too bad she doesn’t live to please you, no?
The woman can't even attend a friend's wedding without being criticised for her sartorial choices! She was there in her personal capacity, not as a representative of 'India'. I never saw Indian men being criticised for wearing a suit on an international platform! https://t.co/yBi40kUfmX

8. THIS IS IT.
Firstly, there is a dress code and secondly she doesn't have to represent India wherever she goes https://t.co/Cyf5Kgle7X

It’s true, Priyanka has put India on the map with her brilliant work on the international cinema and entertainment front. However, she attended the royal wedding as a friend to Meghan Markle and not as a representative of India.
It would do us some good to appreciate her for just how amazing she is and not try to find flaws where they don’t exist.
