PM Modi Urges India To Light Candles For 9 Min At 9 pm On April 5 To End “Darkness” Of COVID-19

Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier asked people to come out in their balconies and appreciate the efforts of health workers with applause and people rightly did so making the ‘Janta Curfew’ and ‘gratitude applaud’ a huge hit.

Thanking people for the same, in a video message, the PM recently said, “The way you paid gratitude to people fighting against COVID-19 on March 22 has become a model that is being emulated by other countries. Janata curfew and ringing of bells/clanging utensils made the country aware of its unity amid this challenging time,” reports TOI.

Days later, Narendra Modi has once again asked for a favor from the people of the country. He has now urged people to light candles, diyas, torch or mobile flashlights to fight the darkness of coronavirus outbreak in the country.

“On April 5, Sunday, at 9 pm, please switch off all the lights in your house and each person should stand with a candle, lamp or mobile flashlights in your hands, on your balconies for 9 minutes,” he said.

“We are not alone during the lockdown, the collective strength of 130 crore Indians is with every citizen,” PM Modi added, reports NDTV.

Last time people in some parts of the country, however, broke the social distancing protocol and stormed the streets in groups to ring bells and clang utensils. Modi urged people not to repeat it this time. “I have one more prayer to all of you, nobody has to gather at any place during this event. Everyone will light a diya (lamp) only at their doors, windows or balconies. The Laxman Rekha (boundary) of social distancing must be followed,” he said.

Explaining the motive behind his thought, Modi said, “We must all go through this darkness together… those who are most affected by this are the poor and marginalized. To overcome this darkness, we must all unite to spread the light… make this darkness of coronavirus meet the light we all spread.”

We hope our Prime Minister’s appeal makes India stand united once again to showcase their energies and enthusiasm to fight the deadly outbreak.
