Last night at 8 PM, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the entire nation regarding the fatal coronavirus whose confirmed cases have risen to 195, as of now.
According to a report by News18, instead of a complete lockdown like the ones Spain and Italy have imposed, PM Modi called for a ‘Janata Curfew’ on Sunday, March 22, preaching self-isolation during such tense times.
On March 22, from 7 AM to 9 PM, the Janata Curfew will be held and on 5 PM, citizens have been requested to come out to their rooftops, balconies, or doorways and clap for 5 minutes for the medical forces and health workers who have been risking their lives and tirelessly working towards helping coronaries patients recover.
He also touched on precautionary measures to keep the virus at bay and also urged people against hoarding commodities from grocery stores.
In case you missed the PM’s address to the nation, here’s a look:
According to a report by Hindustan Times, people on the internet have been lauding the PM’s ‘Janata Curfew’ and are showing their support to abide by it. Eminent people like Shashi Tharoor, Virat Kohli, Twinkle Khanna and others took to Twitter to support this move.
I welcome @PMOIndia @narendramodi ‘s call to solidarity at this challenging time. Will support #JanataCurfew while conscious that Sunday is the easiest day to try it. Need more reinforcement of social distancing (incl suspending Parliament) & specific economic relief measures

Be alert, attentive and aware to combat the threat posed by the Covid 19. We, as responsible citizens, need to adhere to the norms put in place for our safety as announced by our Honourable Prime Minister Shri @NarendraModi ji. #IndiaFightsCorona

Have written against many govt moves but this was a speech by the PM that https://t.co/hEYggGXtzE staves of panic without undermining the gravity of the situation.Applauding those providing essential services will also make us feel more united during this pandemic. #jantacurfew https://t.co/I5maq4kDBk

To curb the further spread of coronavirus, such a curfew was necessary. Even if it is for a day, it is effective. We laud PM Modi for this step and hope that everyone will stay indoors on Sunday!
