Nokia Sues Apple For 32 Patent Violations. A New Smart Phone War Starts In The Court Of Law.

We all know Nokia and Apple as two of the leading mobile phone manufacturers in the world. These smartphone giants often compete with each other, bringing out a more productive and feature-rich product for their consumers. However, this time the companies have locked horns in the court of law.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Nokia Corp said that it has filed a number of lawsuits against Apple for breaching 32 patents, ranging from display and user-interface to software and chipsets. These lawsuits have been filed in the courts of Germany and USA.

“Since agreeing a license covering some patents from the Nokia Technologies portfolio in 2011, Apple has declined subsequent offers made by Nokia to license other of its patented inventions which are used by many of Apple’s products.”

Strangely, Apple on Tuesday filed lawsuits against Acacia Research Corp and Conversant Intellectual Property Management Inc, accusing them of unfairly colluding with Nokia and charging huge revenues from Apple. Their spokesman Josh Rosenstock said,

“We’ve always been willing to pay a fair price to secure the rights of patents covering technology in our products.”

This blame-game and lawsuits fiasco seems like a déjà vu of patent wars between Apple and Samsung in 2011. At that time, Apple filed several lawsuits against Samsung around the world for patent infringement, with both parties winning some and losing some.

Whatever the decision comes out this time, it is sure that the smartphone market is up for another war in the coming days.
