Circular At Girl’s Hostel Of Mysore University Says ‘No Bathing, Washing Clothes’, Sparks Protests

Student hostels and their bizarre rules are no more a matter of ‘accept it and get along’ things. From Panjab University girls’ hostel’s curfew timings to Ajmer students’ demand for lenient hostel regulations, hostelites do not hesitate to launch protests to claim their rights.

The most recent case of such a clampdown and protest against an oppressive circular by a hostel, is coming from Mysore. The city is currently going through a crucial water crisis.

And seems like, 800 students of the Mysore University girls’ hostel are suffering. The girls have been standing in a queue for hours to get water for basic use since days.

Moreover, the hostel authorities circulated a notice in the campus stating ‘No bathing or washing clothes’.

Infuriated with such an unfair circular, the students held a flash protest on Monday mid-night at the campus. They have demanded an immediate and long-lasting solution for the water shortage.

Vice-chancellor of the college, Hemantha Kumar, told TOI that some of the borewells on the campus have dried up which has nothing to do with the water crises in the city.

“We’ve spoken to the Mysore City Corporation to extend a waterline to the campus. Our request is kept pending because of the parliamentary elections,” he added.

We sure hope the protests compel the authorities to resolve the water shortage in the girl’s hostel soon.
