Indian fashion designer and actress Masaba Gupta has multiple times made headlines, sometimes for addressing colorism and other times for breaking stereotypes through her fashion label ‘House of Masaba’. But this time, it’s different and very special as the public figure has finally tied the knot.

Taking to her social media, the designer shared pictures of her private marriage with actor Satyadeep Misra.

According to Vogue, the couple had an intimate court marriage ceremony in the presence of their family and close friends.

“This is truly a private moment for both of us, and more than anything, we wanted to enjoy it,” the designer and entrepreneur told the magazine.

As expected, both Satyadeep and Masaba wore clothes from her clothing brand’s new bridal collection.  “I guess this is the launch,” the designer revealed.

Opening about her hush-hush wedding that came as a shocker to many, Gupta said, “We had a simple court marriage. The idea was to keep it very small and in the presence of our immediate family. We wanted it to be very intimate because we felt that that was the right thing to do and we will not be celebrating in a big way going forward.”

While she said there won’t be a lavish wedding celebration in the future, the couple will, however, host a party for about 80–85 people who’ve had a meaningful relationship with both of them.

Sharing more on why the couple went with an intimate court marriage than a lavish B-town-style shaadi, Gupta said, “The idea of choosing something intimate was because we’re both conscious of not wasting ridiculous amounts of money. We are extremely private people and we want to be in the presence of family and loved ones for memorable days like these.”

She added that since both of them have been married earlier, they saw that it doesn’t make sense to do things that stress you out on such an important day.

“This is truly a private moment for both of us, and more than anything, we wanted to enjoy it. I think the mistake couples sometimes make is that it becomes more about the outward validation of what you’re doing to please people. I didn’t want any of that. We both didn’t. We wanted to make this about ourselves.”

Finally, she addressed the elephant in the room and spilled the beans on her relationship with her now husband, Satyadeep.

“I met him on the sets of ‘Masaba Masaba’, and interestingly, he was playing my ex-husband’s character in season 1. He’s an actor himself and he used to be a lawyer for a decade before that. I think we just connected on the fact that we could have conversations; we both love comfort, peace, and a healthy lifestyle.”

Revealing why they both connected, she said, “The reason we connected is that when we come back home, we’re dead to the world–it’s like anything that happens in the outside world doesn’t affect us. That’s always special.”

As for her wedding ensemble, Gupta opted for a barfi pink raw silk lehenga with gold embroidery and a lime green dupatta with a wallflower print on it.

“I think that it’s all about doing tradition with a contemporary twist. It’s modern and versatile simultaneously, and it’s also very personal. It’s got an element of kitsch,” the bride said.

Since it was the designer’s wedding, they dressed everyone in ‘House Of Masaba’ apparel. Talking more about it, she said, “We wanted the whole family to wear ‘House of Masaba’, and we wanted them to wear it in yellow tones, whereas Satyadeep and I will be in pink hues.”

Divulging on Satyadeep’s outfit, she said, “He is wearing the barfi pink wallflower bandi and a comfortable kurta-pajama. I think when it comes to men’s wear, simplicity is the future of weddings, grooms included.”

This is how she dressed her mother Neena Gupta and her husband Vivek.

“Mom (Neena Gupta) is wearing a beautiful mint green candy swirl printed organza saree with an embroidered border and gota work in the pallu. We’ve paired it with a rosehip blouse and a scalloped neck for her. She’s the mother of the bride, so she has to be extremely comfortable. Her husband–Vivek, is wearing a mustard kurta with a hint of print. My father is wearing a beige-yellow kurta. The other attendees are wearing saris and kaftans. The idea was to put people in things they enjoy wearing.”

Masaba’s dad, West Indies cricketer Viv Richards, also attended her wedding and obviously wore the clothes she designed for him.
