Recently, a new drive started in Dhaka, Bangladesh, wherein battery-run vehicles like rickshaws and vans were being taken off the street. According to The Business Standard, the Dhaka South City Corporation has banned battery-powered vehicles as it is believed that they cause road accidents and are against “tradition”.
A humble rickshawala named Fajlur Rahman had to bear the brunt of this. Due to the coronavirus lockdown, he was let go from a shop he earlier worked at. A few days ago, he had taken a loan of Rs 80,000 to buy himself a new battery-powered rickshaw and work as a rickshawala.
However, recently, due to the DSCC’s new drive, his rickshaw was confiscated by authorities and dumped. A video of Rahman crying while his rickshaw was being seized went viral on social media. He also said that he would take his own life.
As the video was being widely shared, people online extended their support and tried to come up with ways in which they could help the poor man. One person online named Ahsan Bhuiyan took notice and decided to gift Rahman a new rickshaw!
He took to Facebook to post a smiling picture of Rahman with a touching caption:
“We can change things if we want. Going back home after placing an order for a new rickshaw. Delivery on Thursday.”

Another person online took to the comment section to express how he wanted to offer a permanent job to Rahman!
