Married Couples Need To Register Their Marriage In 30 Days Or They’ll Be Fined: Law Proposed

Married couples, listen up! If you haven’t registered your wedding, you may be into trouble. The Law Commission has advised the central council to pass a bill to make it compulsory for couples to register their marriages. Yes. And there’s more.

Couples who fail to register their marriages within 30 days of the ceremony, will be fined Rs. 5 on a daily basis, if they fail to provide a reasonable cause.

The Law Commission has sent a report to the center this month and has explained why they think it should be implemented. Speaking about the daily fine, they said –

“However, the penalty so imposed should be made with respect to specific date subject to a maximum of rupees one hundred keeping in view the prevailing conditions in our country.”

Law Commission said that the compulsory registration of marriages will be a good step for center as it would help prevent child marriages. They also added,

“It would also aid in eliminating practices such early and forced marriages. It can be helpful in achieving gender equality and empowering women.”

Will the bill be passed or not, that only time will tell. But it definitely offers a solution to stop or maybe completely uproot the menace of child marriages. Let’s hope, this bill finds its place in our law as soon as possible.
