These days Social Media is the battleground where the tussle for power happens. And that being the case, the Kardashian-Jenner clan are nothing short of royalty. They happen to wield influential power over us lesser mortals. Mock Kim Kardashian, Kendall and Kylie Jenner and their siblings all you want, but the truth is people do care about what they do, date, wear, eat, drink, and recommend.
Which is probably why the announcement that the youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner brood, Kylie Jenner, is raking in unfathomable moolah is not exactly… unfathomable.
Forbes magazine’s August 2018 issue is all set to proclaim 20-year-old Kylie Jenner, net worth $900 million, as the youngest ‘self-made’ billionaire in history.
As she turns 21 in August, she is poised to surpass Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s record of becoming one at 23.
So where’s all that ka-ching coming from?
According to Forbes, it is her 100% share in her personal brand Kylie Cosmetics, her endorsement deals with several brands which involve sharing posts about them on her social accounts, and of course, her reality television star status.
Bottom line? She’s hella influential. Remember the time when she made Snapchat lose $1.3 billion with just one tweet?
However, while those who love Keeping Up With The Kardashians are marvelling at this news, not everyone seems to be mighty impressed by Kylie Jenner’s feat.
A lot of trolling and sassing was happening on Twitter as soon as Forbes released their cover. People claimed that Kylie’s bank balance was directly proportionate to her family’s popularity and already established businesses. In short, nothing here was ‘self-made’!

That analogy though!
kylie jenner’s “self-made” empire is almost as funny as donald trump’s “small loan of 1 million dollars”

General consensus? That word ‘self-made’ had no business being used to describe Kylie Jenner’s business!
And you know who’d have the biggest bone to pick about a word being used incorrectly, right? A Dictionary, of course!
Dictionary.com’s official Twitter handle decided to throw some major shade at Forbes and Kylie Jenner, proclaiming itself a ‘self-made ‘badass’!
Self-made means having succeeded in life unaided.
Used in a sentence: Forbes says that Kylie Jenner is a self-made woman. https://t.co/sr8Ncd7s5A https://t.co/ehEL7Cf6KV

“Self-made means having succeeded in life unaided.”
Oooohoo boy! That must’ve hurt.
And Twitter? Twitter just couldn’t help but agree and admire Dictionary.com for the savage shade they’d served so beautifully!
So maybe she deserves the title, maybe she doesn’t. You can pick sides. But you cannot deny the sheer brilliance of this savage shade!

When the dictionary gets involved. I am weakkkkkkkk 😂😂😂 #kyliejenner #forbes #selfmade https://t.co/bYGAfNvke4

Many pointed it, minus any shade but with logical reasoning, why the usage of self-made in Kylie’s case just didn’t make sense.
What Kylie’s done is incredibly impressive, she built a cosmetic empire at like 19! I’m happy to celebrate new women billionaires, that alone is enough. However! She is not self-made and Forbes should not claim it, it dishonors those who truly are self-made. #selfmadewomen https://t.co/4Jtzseb1Fx

Many even praised the dictionary, calling the tweet as ‘not a shade’ but rather a correction of a word used wrongfully. You know, just part of a good dictionary’s job description!

Dictionary be like… “Refer to my above tweet!”

And here you thought English was a boring subject and dictionaries were a waste….

A couple of the skeptics brought up a rather important observation about the actual meaning of ‘self-made’….

To which someone provided a satisfactory explanation!
It’s not being mad or hating. It’s a bad term. She isn’t self-made by literal definition of the term. pic.twitter.com/IM4dMxEssy
— Randi White (@RandiWhite) July 11, 2018
This would be the most apt usage of ‘literally’ ever!
Just like….
I love this definition because it highlights that literally nobody on earth is self-made https://t.co/3UEjc8PhcC

Anyhoo, all this shall be forgotten the moment Kylie Jenner posts another adorable picture with daughter Stormi or her sisters!
But I’m sure you’ve learnt a valuable lesson here, right? Dictionaries be schooling ya forever!
